Frequently asked questions

Does this symptom checker replace a doctor?+

Absolutely not. This tool is purely educational and informational. It does not provide a diagnosis nor prescribe anything. It helps identify which specialist to see for your symptoms. Any diagnosis requires a clinical exam by a doctor.

When to go to A&E vs see a doctor?+

A&E 141/15: severe chest pain, stroke (speech, paralysis), serious trauma, vomiting blood, severe breathing difficulty, loss of consciousness, seizures. GP: prolonged fever, symptoms > 48h, moderate pain. Specialist: persistent specific symptoms.

Telehealth or in-person?+

Telehealth is fine for: prescription renewal, health advice, mild symptoms, minor issues, orientation. In-person is required for: localised pain needing palpation, examinations (auscultation, BP, tests), first consultation, dental or eye problems, minor surgery, vaccination.

How do I describe my symptoms to the doctor?+

Be precise: When did it start? Intensity 1-10? What aggravates/relieves it? Associated symptoms? Family history? Medications taken? The QPRCS method is helpful: Quality, Provocation, Region, Chronology, Severity.
