When should I take my child to A&E?+
Child < 3 months with fever, convulsions, abnormal breathing, unusual drowsiness, repeated vomiting, dehydration (cries without tears, dry mouth), inconsolable crying > 2h, rash + fever, total refusal to eat/drink. Call 141 (paediatric ambulance) or go to A&E.
My child has a fever, what should I do?+
If < 38.5°C and good general state: paracetamol 15 mg/kg every 6h (never aspirin), hydration, light clothing, room at 19-20°C. See a doctor if: < 3 months, > 48h, > 39.5°C, convulsions, rash, drowsiness, inconsolable crying.
When should solids be introduced?+
Between 4 and 6 completed months. Start with cooked puréed vegetables (carrot, courgette), then mild fruits. Gradually introduce cereals, meat (6m), fish (6m), whole egg (6m). No honey before 1 year. No whole nuts before 5 years.
Are vaccinations mandatory in Morocco?+
Yes, the National Immunisation Programme (PNI) requires BCG, DTaP-Hib-HepB, Polio, Rotavirus, Pneumococcal, Measles-Rubella. Free in all public health centres. An up-to-date vaccination booklet is mandatory for school.
My child isn't speaking at 2 years, is this serious?+
Between 18-24 months, most children say 20-50+ words and combine 2 words. An isolated delay can be normal (bilingualism, temperament). Consult paediatrician + ENT (hearing) + speech therapist if: no word at 18 months, can't follow simple instructions, no pointing/eye contact.
How much does a paediatric consultation cost?+
In Morocco: 200-400 MAD in a private practice (up to 500 MAD for top names in Casa/Rabat). Free in public dispensaries. CNOPS reimburses 80%, CNSS 70% of the national reference fee. Telemedicine is often 30% cheaper.
