Monothérapie chélatrice en cas de surcharge martiale chronique, p.ex. hémosidéroses post-transfusionnelles survenant lors de thalassémie majeure, d'anémie sidéroblastique, d'anémie hémolytique auto-immune et d'autres anémies chroniques; hémochromatose primitive ou idiopathique, lorsque des troubles concomitants (p.ex. anémie grave, cardiopathie, hypoprotéinémie) interdisent toute phlébotomie; surcharge martiale accompagnée de porphyrie cutanée tardive, lorsqu'une phlébotomie ne peut être pratiquée. Traitement de l'intoxication martiale aiguë. Traitement de la surcharge chronique en aluminium lors d'insuffisance rénale terminale (en dialyse chronique) et ostéopathie aluminique et/ou encéphalopathie des dialysés et/ou anémie en relation avec l'aluminium.
