En raison de son mode d'action, l'aciclovir n'éradique pas les virus latents. Après traitement, le malade restera donc exposé à la même fréquence de récidives qu'auparavant. Traitement des récurrences d’herpès génital. Prévention des infections à Virus Herpes Simplex, chez les sujets souffrant d’au moins 6 récurrences par an. Infections ophtalmologiques : Prévention des récidives d'infections oculaires à HSV : - kératites épithéliales après 3 récurrences par an ou en cas de facteur déclenchant connu, - kératites stromales et kérato-uvéites après 2 récurrences par an. - en cas de chirurgie de l'œil. Traitement des kératites et kérato-uvéites à HSV.
